oil cloth.

I really like the idea of sewing with oil cloth. I've got a lovely pattern for a rain coat and I've even read a few tips on sewing oil cloth such as using longer stitches, and using a Teflon machine foot to sew with. The only problem..... I don't seem to have much time :(

but it's not stopped me searching for oil cloth fabrics and norfolk textile have a beautiful range.

Now which one to choose?

Have any of you sewn with oil cloth or something similar ?

  1. Wow, I love these oilcoths...I too would have a hard time choosing! Good luck with that ;o)

A while back I was asked to make a child's pinny in oilcloth and I did a bit of research which you might find helpful here: http://asewingodyssey.blogspot.com/2011/03/sewing-with-oilcloth.html

Overall, it was much easier sewing with it that I ever imagined. Just make sure you have the right needle size and sew on the wrong side of the oilcloth to stop your sewing foot from sticking to the shiny side.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Oooh, I'm a sucker for polka dots. I'd love to see a raincoat in the red (magenta?) polka dot one.
