Jersey Dress Mash-Up.....

Umm, I'm not sure how I feel about this dress! I don't know if I love it or hate it!
I'd been dying to try the pattern out since I traced it out several months ago! It's taken from the sew u home stretch book. I'd made a few alterations when I first traced it, and then a few more before I used it. so I didn't want to risk spending money on fabric for this project to turn out wonky, instead I thought I'd use up what I had left over.

There isn't a great deal to say about the dress. Maybe I would like it more if it was either all stripe or plain colour. Speaking of colour that dark camel (caramel even?), isn't something I'd normally wear. Maybe that has a lot to do with it.

Fit wise, it's pretty good. The shoulders are a bit wide but that's about it.
The back waist is on the baggy side although the fit on the front is great. My only other snag is because the stripe jersey is very light weight I thought I would sew clear elastic into the seam for extra support or to stop the skirt ( wool jeresy) from stretching it down. It does help but makes the waist stiff maybe an extra strip of fabric would have been a better solution?

This dress did spend the best part of last month on my mannequin, whilst I try to figure out how I feel about it. Even the Bf is confused by it! Although I do think accessorizing it is the way to go...

On it's own.

With necklace and earnings.

I guess this sums up how I feel about it...

  1. I think it would be less confusing if the sleeves were the stripe fabric, too? (Or if it were sleeveless). Then it looks like a shirt and skirt outfit, without the fuss of tucking in a top! I really like the casual fit and the colors together, especially with the cardigan. On my screen, it looks like a deep golden yellow!

  2. It did cross my mind, (I forgot to mention this ) I didn't have enough of the stripe fabric, but it would of looked so much better :(
I wish the skirt was deep golden yellow, it so hard to photograph the colour but it's definitely some sort of weird brown colour!
