oil cloth.

I really like the idea of sewing with oil cloth. I've got a lovely pattern for a rain coat and I've even read a few tips on sewing oil cloth such as using longer stitches, and using a Teflon machine foot to sew with. The only problem..... I don't seem to have much time :(

but it's not stopped me searching for oil cloth fabrics and norfolk textile have a beautiful range.

Now which one to choose?
Have any of you sewn with oil cloth or something similar ?

blue bloods and illustration.

I rarely read anything now unless its sewing/fashion related, but while I was away at Easter I started reading the  Blue Bloods book by Melissa de la Cruz which my cousin gave me. At first I didn't think it would intrest me as it's about vampires (sigh! I know I know!) but strangely found myself  hooked after reading the first chapter and now I'm on the 5th book!!!

It was the cover that got me first and the phrase on the back cover 'they're young, fabulous and fanged....' The story centers around fifteen year old Schuyler Van Allen who's just found she is a vampire (a blue blood) and who's family was one the most powerful in New York city but have fallen on hard times.
There is a lot of glamour, mistique and history in this book. It looks at where the blue bloods came from, the life they lead (glitz, glamour, romance and partys) and the murder of the young blue bloods who Schuyler has to find out whom or what is behind it.

It's prodominaltly an old…

Royal Ascot 2011 and Ascot through the decades.

I absolutely love Royal Ascot and I've spent the last few days ogling the outfits being worn. I'm determined to go to Ascot at least once it's such a fantastic opportunity to get dressed up and decked out in a hat, my Nan and my Auntie went once (I'll have a dig round see if I can find some photo's of them.) This years royal ascot didn't disappoint, it show cased the wonderful, the weird and the wacky to say the least but however the lady's (and some men) were dressed it sure looks a fabulous day out, my only downside was I didn't get see the coverage of lady's day on the t.v. By the way I've included some lovely images of Ascot from 1910-1990 for most of them it's very easy to see which decade they come from even if you only know a little about fashion history as they adhere to the particular decades perfectly but for those of you are not sure I've included the year.

        And not forgetting the men........
