Sewing a top- Butterick pattern.

This is a variation of my post sewing a dress. I've used the same pattern but I've shortened it to make it in to a tunic style top.

The pattern was easy to alter I just followed the 'lengthen or shorten here' line on the pattern at the hip and then because the dress tapers in, I had to draw in a new line either side so the pattern lined up properly.

I bought two and half meters of fabric which turned out to be what was left on the roll and the kind lady then sold it to me for the price of two.
The top is for a family friend but I was also able to cut out another one for my aunty too .

The only down side is the interfacing used on the black material for the yoke wrinkled whilst I was given the top a final press, I'm disappointed with this but I have been reading that cheap interfacing can do this so I guess it's true when they say you only get what you pay for!!!

Self Drafted Pattern: monsoon dress

This is the dress that I've been mentioning the last few weeks. I designed and made it myself as I've become reliant on using shop bought patterns and it bugs me that I can pattern cut but it's one of those things that I really should do more of- as practice makes perfect- or so they say ;)!!!! plus I'm one of these people who can't stand the thought of turning up wearing something that someone else has on so I've decided I should really make more of my own clothes.

This dress was for a wedding reception that I went to last weekend. I'd bought the fabric from here and knew soon as I'd seen it that it would be perfect for this occasion.

These were some initial designs.
variations of the chosen design. I went with first of the small designs

I was originally going to do this design as a flat pattern meaning that there would be no darts but as I started to eliminate the darts the pattern didn't look right so I chose to …

paloma faith inspired sketch.

oh gosh!!! I feel I've fallen so behind with this blog, but new job + a dress to make = no internet time and defo no blog time :(. The new job is going ok though so with a bit of will power and better time management I should be able to juggle the whole sewing, designing,  blog-thingy.

Just a sketch to post today but hopefully I'll put up the dress I designed and made in the week (it's the first thing I made that I've actually worn lol!!!)

I based this sketch on the dress that Paloma Faith performed in at the Brit awards. I thought she looked fab and feisty. but I wanted to design a more wearable dress but with all the passion and feisty-ness of Paloma's and with out the tails which Cee-lo managed to rip off (so funny!!! even Paloma seen the funny side which is good)  Instead this dress has an off center train, with detailing to the bodice which is finished with white piping to add contrast. Thanks for looking xx
